Best Netflix Movies And Series For Singles

Published on: September 22, 2016 at 9:00 PM

Netflix offers some of the best movies and series for your streaming pleasure, and many of them are perfect for singles. For the hopeless or hopeful romantics out there, often any romantic-comedy will do: boy meets girl, conflict ensues, conflict gets resolved, and then they live happily ever after. But sometimes the best programs for singles are those that deal with self-discovery, what the dating world is truly like, or a good story that has nothing to do with romance. Whether you are happy kicking it solo, just went through a breakup, or need a good reminder that love does exist, Netflix has the answer for you.

Tracks

Tracks is perfect for those in the mood for a story of self-discovery. It scored a well-deserved rating of 81 percent on Rotten Tomatoes , and the site provides the synopsis for one of the best movies on Netflix .

“Director John Curran (THE PAINTED VEIL, WE DON’T LIVE HERE ANYMORE) and the producers of THE KINGS SPEECH bring you the film TRACKS, which tells the remarkable true story of Robyn Davidson (Wasikowska), a young woman who leaves her life in the city to make a solo trek through almost 2,000 miles of sprawling Australian desert. Accompanied by only her dog and four unpredictable camels, she sets off on a life-changing journey of self-discovery. Along the way, she meets National Geographic photographer Rick Smolan (Driver) who begins to photograph her voyage.”

Swingers

Swingers is one of the best movies for someone who was just dumped. Although the movie centers on a group of young men, anyone who has gone through a breakup can relate to this film. The light and breezy feel of the movie is refreshing, and it serves as a good reminder that there is happiness after a relationship ends.

St. Vincent

Starring Bill Murray, Naomi Watts, Melissa McCarthy, and Jaeden Lieberher, comes the feel-good movie, St. Vincent . It can be difficult to find a movie that doesn’t center on a romantic relationship in one form or another. This is one of the best movies on Netflix that deals with life and relationships, but not in a romantic sense.

Hector and the Search for Happiness

Another film centered on self-discovery, Hector and the Search for Happiness is an entertaining piece that will leave you thinking about your own life, and what you may need to further your happiness.

Adventureland

For those singles that enjoy movies with some romance, this coming-of-age tale is perfect. With an all-star cast consisting of Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Wiig, Ryan Reynolds, and Bill Hader, Adventureland provides many laughs in this comedy-drama. The romantic part of the story isn’t overwhelming, as romance is just one of the subjects the story tackles. IMDB provides the synopsis for one of the best feel-good movies on Netflix .

“In 1987, James Brennan’s dreams of a summer European tour before studying at an Ivy League school in New York City are ruined after his parents have a severe career setback. As a result, James must get a summer job to cover his upcoming expenses at the decrepit local amusement park, Adventureland.

“In that bizarrely shady workplace, the young carnies have unforgettable and painful learning experiences about life, love and trust while James discovers what he truly values.”

Chasing Amy

Starring Ben Affleck, Jason Leigh, Matt Damon, and Joey Lauren Adams, Chasing Amy is one of Kevin Smith’s best movies. Though this picture is perfect for any gender, it is often described as a “chick flick” for guys.

The Fundamentals of Caring

Out of the list of Netflix original movies, this one is arguably the best. This buddy-film stars Paul Rudd, Selena Gomez, and Craig Roberts, and they all deliver tremendous performances. The main themes of this film are hope and friendship.

Arrested Development

The first three seasons of this hilarious series was originally aired on Fox (2003-2006), but despite rave reviews the ratings were low so the show was cancelled. Seven years later, Netflix picked up the series and gave audiences the much-anticipated fourth season.

This is the perfect series for nonsense comedy. It’s easy for audiences to care about the characters, but it never gets too deep or heavy. The witty banter is topnotch which parallels the amazing cast: Jason Bateman, Henry Winkler, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, David Cross, and Ron Howard. TV.com provides the synopsis for one of the best series on Netflix .

“The Emmy Award-winning comedy series ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT revolves around MICHAEL BLUTH (Jason Bateman), the ‘normal’ one in a family of crazies, who is forced to stay in Orange County and run the family real estate business after his father, GEORGE BLUTH SR. (Jeffrey Tambor), is sent to prison for shifty accounting practices.”

Love

The upside to this Netflix original series is that it gives a true reflection of what the dating world can be like. The downside is that the main male character, unintentionally, has very few redeeming qualities — if any. Though this series isn’t as funny as it was meant to be, it still has its moments.

This is the perfect series to not binge-watch; it’s much better served sparingly throughout the week. Because it deals with the dating world, many singles may find this show amusing and comforting. Gillian Jacobs steals the show and her performance alone is worth checking out Love .

Easy

Easy was just released and is the latest series of Netflix originals. It’s an anthology series that deals with love, sex, breakups, dating, and relationships. So, regardless of your current dating situation, Easy has an episode for you.
