Manchester City Striker Carlos Tevez Pleads Guilty To Driving While Disqualified

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has developed a knack for breaking the law, as the 29-year-old pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance at a Macclesfield Magistrates’ Court in Cheshire, England on Wednesday.

Tevez was cited in January for failing to provide information about speeding incidents and was given a six-month driving ban that was to last until May 25. On March 7, Tevez was caught driving a white Porsche outside of Mottram Hotel and Golf Club in Cheshire following an anonymous tip.

According to the Premium Times , Tevez told police: “I only live down the road. Two minutes.” The quick notion didn’t help as he was cited for driving while disqualified and without insurance.

Tevez appeared in court Wednesday for the charges and received 250 hours of community service, along with another six-month driving ban and must pay €1,145 in court costs and fines, roughly $1,500.

The Argentinian striker makes €200,000 a match, so the fees won’t hurt him. On the other hand, 250 hours of community service is no laughing matter, and Tevez will have to serve every minute.

Tevez has scored 16 goals in 37 appearances for Manchester City this season including a goal in the Citizens 4-0 win over Newcastle this past Saturday. City is currently 15 points behind rival Manchester United for the top of the Barclays Premier league with only eight fixtures remaining.

The Citizens face off with the Red Devils on April 8 at Old Trafford. Manchester United beat City 3-2 in early December and have distanced themselves from the pack in the Premier League standings.

Tevez will more than likely be on the field when City goes to Old Trafford on April 8 even after his numerous driving offenses. Tevez might have been forced to serve time in jail, but Magistrate Elizabeth Depares ruled that Tevez ” had served a significant proportion of his disqualification” before his arrest on March 7, which led to community service instead of jail time.

Tevez has been considered a role model to fans all over the world as one of the sport’s most popular stars but was reminded Wednesday that he will be treated the same as everyone else. With an extended driving ban, Tevez won’t be behind the wheel anytime soon unless he’s looking for more trouble.

Can Carlos Tevez stay focused as an important match with Manchester United is coming up? Will his off the field issues affect his play down the stretch for Manchester City?
