StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm had a successful launch, and here’s what the critics had to say about it.
The first chapter, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty , was a StarCraft fan’s wish come true. The same classic gameplay, the emphasis on tactics and constant adaptation to opponent attacks all worked together with an unbelievable level of graphics prowess and almost cinematic cutscenes that gave it more than just a “kill this camp, move on to the next one” storyline. The original StarCraft gave science fiction aficionados a chance to play a RTS (real-time strategy) title geared to their tastes, and did it well. The sequel took all of that and improved it in almost every way without losing the competitive nature that made StarCraft such a non-beginner-friendly test of your skills.
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty gave us the same three opponent types, but only included the continued storyline for the Terrans (humans), with the announcement that the Zerg and Protoss campaigns would be sold separately. StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm is the Zerg campaign, or in other words, part two of three, with the last being the Protoss. Rumors circulated that a fourth opponent type would be introduced, but if there is, it will either be in the next round or an unannounced fourth campaign. A fourth campaign with a new race would help the series just as much as when Age of Mythologies got The Titans expansion pack, introducing the Atlanteans as a fourth choice.
StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm spins an engrossing tale of vengeance and the price one must pay to attain it . Sarah Kerrigan, the once-Queen of the Zerg, adds an element of practical advancement to the slimier side of the StarCraft II experience, with powers that give permanent rewards as you build them up.
The new release from the StarCraft II series gives us an excellent test of the improved AI with route-finding seeing fewer units getting lost or stranded as you learn the new units included with the second installment. The Zerg interface has been improved, giving the race a less finicky feel.
