Bayern Munich brushed aside Juventus 2-0 in the first leg of its Champions League quarter-final tie with Italian side Juventus on Tuesday.

The Bavarians will now take a healthy lead into the return fixture in Turin but will be kicking themselves that they did not finish the job in Munich.

Bayern’s performance was impressive nonetheless as David Alaba opened the scoring less than 30 seconds into the match.

The Austrian sent the Allianz Arena faithful into raptures when he unleashed a drive that deflected off Arturo Vidal and rolled past the outstretched arms of Juve goalkeeper Gigi Buffon.

It was a dream start for the Germans and they could have added to their advantage but Arjen Robben was foiled by Buffon and then shot wide when the Dutchman should have hit the target.

The Italian keeper once again got the better of Robben later in the first half and Juventus was extremely lucky to be only one goal down at the half-time break.

Bayern continued to dominate and came looking for the second goal it truly deserved but Buffon was standing tall between the sticks, denying Mario Mandzukic from an acute angle.

However, it was only a matter of time before the Bundesliga club added another and it came in the 63rd minute after some good work from Luiz Gustavo.

The Brazilian defender drilled in a 25-yard shot that Buffon could only bat away and Mandzukic was on hand to find Thomas Muller who tapped in with ease.

Bayern was up 2-0 and went searching for another goal, which would likely kill off the tie. But Buffon would have none of it and made two key stops in the late stages to ensure Juve was not dead and buried just yet.

Still, Bayern are in complete control of the tie and will fancy its chances in the return leg in Turin.
