TBS has canceled its freshman comedy, Wedding Band , after just one season.
The series focused on four friends ( Brian Austin Green , Harold Perrineau, Peter Cambor, and Derek Miller) who spend their spare time performing in a wedding band called “Mother of the Bride.” The series first appeared in development in May 2010, and TBS ordered a pilot in October. Green, Perrineau, Cambor, and Miller were cast in December, and the network ordered the show to series for a 10-episode order on May 11, 2011. The series premiered on November 10, 2012, occupying a Saturday 10 pm time slot.
TBS cited poor ratings as the reason for cancellation. Despite having several guest stars — such as Megan Fox, Kurtwood Smith, and Molly Sims — the series was unable to bring in viewers. According to The Hollywood Reporter , Wedding Band only attracted 1.85 million total viewers , with 1.1 million in the 18-49 demographic. The January 5 episode, “99 Problems,” pulled in a paltry 0.94 million viewers.
The last episode — aptly titled “End of the World As We Know It” — aired on January 19, and pulled in 1.4 million viewers.
StarPulse caught up with Cambor before what ended up being the season finale, and he seemed unaware that the show was in danger of cancellation.
“We all had a really positive experience with a great crew and a great group of actors,” Cambor said. “This big group of humble people. It’s been a great ride so far. It’s one of the things I’m most proud of that I’ve done.”
Shortly after it was announced that the show had been canceled, he tweeted:
Ah twitterers… Want to thank all of you for your support and viewership!Thought we did pretty damn good for Saturday Night!Thank you!
