Percy Harvin announced today that he will undergo surgery on his injured hip.
The Seattle Seahawks wide receiver took to Twitter today to break the bad news to his fans. USA Today reports that Harvin, 25, was cleared to scrimmage with the team last week but the wide receiver said that he wasn’t ready to take the field.
Harvin met with another hip specialist, Dr. Bryan Kelly at the Hospital for Special Surgery, in order to get a second opinion. Kelly recommended hip surgery and Harvin agreed with the doctor’s opinion.
Harvin writes on Twitter: “When everything is goin good sometimes life throw u a curve ball… sorry to half to report that my injury will require surgery… Nobody was more anxious and excited about season then….but I will be back strong as ever..i appreciate all the love and prayers 12th man.”
There is no timeline for Harvin’s return yet but ESPN reports that it will likely take three to four months for Harvin to heal.
The 25-year-old wide receiver had 50 catches, 7 touchdowns, and 748 yards last season. He ended the year on the injury reserved list after suffering an ankle injury on November 4.
Despite the injury, Harvin signed a $67 million six year extension with the contract during the off-season.
The estimated time table for Percy Harvin’s surgery and recovery? I’m told 3-4 months. Perhaps a team decision for roster status.

NFL.com reports that Harvin has a slight tear in the labrum of his hip. If the timetable is correct, Harvin will make his return sometime in November.
