Jimmy Page has spoken out about the possibility of a Led Zeppelin reunion, and it doesn’t look very promising for fans of the classic rock band.
Jimmy Page — appearing with Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and Jason Bonham — was at a press conference promoting the film Celebration Day when he put the kibosh on an imminent reunion of Led Zeppelin. When asked by reporters about Led Zeppelin’s future, Page said bluntly :
“I think it’s disappointing for people when the answer is no … That’s what it is now.”
Celebration Day chronicles a rare Led Zeppelin reunion performance back in 2007, prompting the questions to Jimmy Page and other band members about a potential reunion.
But Jason Bonham, son of drummer John Bonham, explained at the conference his feelings on why Led Zeppelin reunions should be few and far between:
“I think it’s probably frustrating to the public when they see how good it is, and they go, ‘why won’t you do anymore?’ They don’t get it … But you know what, there’s a time, and for me it’s when John Bonham was in Led Zeppelin.”
Of the prep for one of their rare reunions, Plant explained:
“You have to understand, any other group would be a doing a warm-up gig, and then they would have like two or three concerts in a row. We could have done more than one, with the demand, but we only had one shot and we had to be super-duper confident on it, and it went well.”
Page added that the concert in the film occurred a half-decade ago and that further reunions were “pretty unlikely.”
