Daft Punk believes Star Wars is in very capable hands.

The French electronic duo recently sat down to discuss a number of topics with the folks at KROQ in Los Angeles. Not surprisingly, it didn’t take long for George Lucas’ series to pop up.

During their conversation, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo addressed J.J. Abrams’ involvement with Star Wars: Episode VII . The guys are pretty big fans of the filmmaker, and both seem convinced he’s the right guy to continue telling stories in a galaxy far, far away.

“We feel really good [about it]. We’ve always been big fans of his work. I happened to have met J.J. a few years back, and he’s a really cool guy. He seems to be the perfect candidate to keep the Force alive,” Bangalter explained to KROQ .

J.J. Abrams is charged with bringing Star Wars: Episode VII to the big screen. The director recently stated production on long-awaited sequel could begin as early as next year. However, the next installment of the beloved franchise won’t hit theaters until 2015.

Bangalter said he was a fan of Abrams’ television series Lost . He even admitted to being a fan of the finale.

Daft Punk are no strangers to the world of cinematic sci-fi. The duo provided the score for director Joseph Kosinski’s TRON: Legacy . In this writer’s opinion, the soundtrack was actually much more memorable than the film itself.

The duo also discussed the challenge of trying to stay anonymous. Not only does Daft Punk rarely give radio interviews, they also don’t make public appearances without wearing masks. Fellow electronic outfit The Knocks reportedly posted a picture of the group without their helmets on Twitter, though it appears to have since been removed. However, images of the tweet still exist.

“It becomes also like a game. The idea of anonymity is something we cherish because it’s a statement. It’s also the way we’re living our lives, and we really like the separation between the public image and our private lives,” Bangalter explained.

He added, “At the same time, it’s part of the entertainment and the mystique of the entire project we’ve built step by step, record after record. Having the ability to make these robots evolve and follow this journey. It’s becoming more and more challenging, but so far so good.”

If you consider yourself a Daft Punk fan, then you should probably pick up Random Access Memories as soon as possible. It’s pretty good stuff. And if you doubt the duo’s enthusiasm about the Star Wars universe, check out the clip embedded below.
