Willie Robertson was the first primetime speaker during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland last night. The Duck Dynasty star gave a humor-filled and passionate speech. While there was laughter throughout the evening, the “Make America Safe Again” theme also sparked many tears from members of the audience as veterans and Benghazi survivors took to the podium.
“If you’re an average American who feels like you’re been forgotten, neglected by the far away leaders, that the deck is stacked against you — and you just can’t win — Donald Trump will have your back,” Willie Robertson said during his speech at the Republican National Convention.
Willie Robertson also said he and the presumptive Republican nominee have a lot in common.
“We’re both successful businessmen, although I flew here commercial and I’m guessing he didn’t,” Robertson said with a grin. “And we both have intelligent wives who are much better looking than we are. Are you cheering because we’re ugly,” he added with a hearty laugh.

The Duck Dynasty star poked a bit of good-natured fun at both himself and Donald Trump, but he also focused on the pressing concerns currently on the minds of millions of Americans — regardless of party affiliation.

Willie Robertson also shared his thoughts about the mainstream media and so-called “experts” who have been predicting Donald Trump’s downfall since moments after he threw his hat in the ring last summer, Fox News notes.
The Duck Commander and Buck Commander founder shared his theory about why the news media “missed the Trump Train.”
“It’s been a rough year for the media experts. It must be humbling to be so wrong about so much for so long,” the Duck Dynasty star added when referencing the comments of many media pundits when covering primary races and anticipating poll results.
“They [the media] don’t hang out with regular folks like us, who like to hunt and fish and pray and actually work for a living,” Robertson added.
Robertson’s words, while light-hearted, appeared to correctly detail the great and growing divide in America. Millions of voters in both the Democrat and Republican primary seemed to agree on at least one thing — they no longer wanted to be governed by political elites in the party establishment who know little to nothing about the daily lives and struggles of common Americans.
The Duck Dynasty star also said he does not believe the media elites have any clue how to talk to folks from “middle America.” He added that when he first began doing interviews and journalists learned he was from the South, they immediately began talking “real slow and real loud.”

Before hopping aboard the Trump Train himself, Willie Robertson had voiced support for the idea of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal running for the presidency. Robertson deemed Jindal “my guy.” Governor Jindal failed to reach the first tier in the crowded group of candidates. The Louisiana business owner became one of the earliest and most vocal supporters of Trump.
The 10th season of Duck Dynasty recently premiered, the Los Angeles Times reports. Three years ago, rumors that Willie Robertson was planning a run for Congress in his native state of Louisiana first began circulating. The Duck Dynasty star obviously opted against such a run — at least for now.
He did, however, begin dipping his toe more into the political realm. In 2014, Robertson attended President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address as a guest of Republican Louisiana Representative Vance McAllister.
