Aaron Hernandez destroyed the sophisticated security system guarding his $1.3 million home ahead of a murder investigation connected to him, Massachusetts police say.
The New England Patriots tight end is the center of an investigation into the death of an associate, though police had not initially named him as a suspect. The body of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd was found late Monday afternoon by a teenage jogger in an industrial park less than a mile from Hernandez’s home. Lloyd, a semi-pro basketball player in Boston, had dated the sister of Hernandez’s girlfriend.
Sources say Lloyd and Hernandez were together at a Boston nightclub sometime over the weekend, and police recovered a vehicle near the body that had been registered to Hernandez.
Massachusetts State police obtained a warrant to search the North Attleboro, Massachusetts, home where Aaron Hernandez lived. Along with the broken security equipment , police also found a cell phone that had been smashed, leading investigators to believe the Patriots player had hired “a team of house cleaners” on Monday.
Police also are looking into a second car registered to Hernandez that was returned Tuesday to an Enterprise rental location with a side mirror dislodged. Investigators are reportedly looking for the mirror.
Reports said Aaron Hernandez initially did not cooperate with police, but he later complied. Police also searched the car of some men at Hernandez’s home who tried to leave.
There were conflicting reports on whether Aaron Hernandez would be arrested in connection to the homicide. Some reports said his arrest was imminent, but Wesley Lowery of the Boston Globe said that was untrue.
As the Aaron Hernandez murder investigation heats up, the 23-year-old has been watched closely by media. Camera crews followed closely as he left Gillette Stadium on Thursday and drove to Boston, near the offices of his attorney, Michael Fee.
