Keanu Reeves has revealed that Bill & Ted 3 , the planned third instalment to the cherished franchise, is in doubt because “there’s darkness out there that’s keeping it from happening.”
A third movie was revealed to be in the works in 2010, and by March 2012 The Matrix star had confirmed that a script was complete , which was then followed in July by the news that Dean Parisot, the director of RED 2 , would be helming the project.
However, over the last year no more information regarding the movie had been revealed, but when quizzed by MTV News yesterday Reeves revealed that there may be a sinister motive behind the abrupt halt in the film’s production.
Reeves , who starred as Ted in the cult comedy, remarked, “There’s lots of subterfuge and conspiracy theories. There’s a whole thing… I might have to do one of those independent press, conspiracy, other-name kind of [statements] explaining why it hasn’t happened yet, because it’s pretty dark out there.”
He then added, “There’s all sorts of stuff and it just can’t – it’s just – there’s darkness out there that’s keeping it from happening… It’s that part of the story where it’s looking grim. It’s the dark period of the idea.”
Earlier this year, Alex Winter, who appeared as Bill in the first films, spoke glowingly about the upcoming film, telling MTV News: “There’s no drama. There’s no legal skirmish… We built a story. They wrote a script. We’re tinkering with the script to get it perfect. Then we will go get the money. Then we will shoot it. And that’s really all there is to it.”
Reeves and Winter originally played the titular pair of slackers who travelled through time inside a phone booth in 1989’s Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure , before reprising the roles in 1991’s Bill And Ted’s Bogus Journey.
