A recent blog post explained that John McAfee had been captured by Belize authorities on murder charges. However, Techworld explains that the “antivirus king” may still be on the run.
Spokesperson Brian Fitzgerald posted on John McAfee’s official website that the man was picked up by police after attempting to cross the Mexican border. Although several news outlets have reported McAfee’s arrest, Belize police say this isn’t the case.
“I do not know where he is supposed to have been captured, but he certainly isn’t here at San Pedro police station,” an anonymous officer recently explained.
The US embassy has also stated it was also unaware that John McAfee had been captured regarding the murder charges that are currently stacked against him.
According to PC Magazine , the antivirus mastermind has been more than a little brazen in his quest to evade apprehension by Belize authorities. In fact, McAfee recently came out of hiding to do an interview with the folks at CNN .
At one point during his adventures, McAfee reportedly wore a disguise that fooled an Associated Press reporter who happened to be standing nearby at the time.
“I donned an old Guatemalan style sarape and toted a bag containing a variety of Guatemalan woven goods,” he explained. “I adjusted my posture so that I appeared a good six inches shorter than my actual height and slowly walked up and down the beach with a pronounced limp, pushing an old single speed bicycle and peddling my wares to tourists and reporters using a broken English with a heavy Spanish accent.”
Belize authorities explained they aren’t interested in arresting John McAfee for the death of Florida businessman Gregory Viant Faull. Instead, they’re simply interested in asking him a few questions about the man’s untimely demise. McAfee believes he will be killed if taken into custody.
