Justin Bieber delighted fans at his sold out Detroit, Michigan show on Sunday with a hit-laden set and a surprise — a brief flash of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.”
The 19-year-old singer, whose love of rap is a longstanding one , parsed through the opening lines from the 2002 theme to Eminem’s movie 8 mile, in a change of pace from his Believe tour palate.
While Bieber is a fan of the 40-year-old rapper, the feeling is not mutual. Eminem famously called out the teen star on his 2011 collaborative single “A Kiss.” The specific lyric:
“Him don’t give a damn about Bieber, do Him? / What a demon, a behemoth, evil just seems to be seeping through him.”
The Canadian shouldn’t feel too bad though, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga were also slammed by Mr. Mathers.
Despite his ever-present bad press, Bieber put aside his troubles to reportedly deliver a poptastic, 18-song show to the 20,000 that packed out Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena.
“Thank you for believing in me,” the singer told the Belieber-heavy audience, according to local reports . “And I believe in you!”
The crowd of mostly pre-teen and teenage girls reportedly lapped up every second of the singer’s show concert, apparently unfazed by recent reports of him spitting from a hotel balcony in Toronto.
Unlike previous alleged incidents, this time Bieber was actually captured spitting on film. He is also accused of spitting on fans who gathered outside his hotel at the time.
However, while the teen’s public emission is clearly horrid, a close-up view of the balcony reveals a secondary ledge where in all likelihood he aimed his saliva.
On a more savory note, speculation has sparked again about Bieber’s ambiguous relationship with ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez, after he turned up to her (final) 21st birthday celebration this weekend bearing a single red rose .
Meanwhile, Bieber’s Believe tour odyssey continues. He plays Newark, N.J.’s Prudential Center on July 30.
