This is going to be a little tough. The Carolina Panthers won one game, they have teh first pick in the 2011 NFL draft, and they must find a new head coach. Of all the Coaching jobs open or soon to be this one is the most unattractive save coaching the Oakland Raiders. This is a bad NFL team and it will take awhile to get it all fixed. They will likely start wit ha new QB via the draft, and hopefully the owner will decide that money must be spent to make the team competitive again.
The offense is in bad shape. They scored just 196 points easily the fewest of the 32 NFL teams. Six different men took snaps from center and not a one of them proved they were capable of handling the job long term. Why they moved away from the dominating duo at RB is something of a question and may be why John Fox was fired. Of course DeAngelo Williams only appeared in six games, but that was the strength of this team in 2009. Of course the O line did give up 50 sacks and that is high so more talent there could help as well.
The Defense gave up 408 points, and that was the seventh most among the 32 NFL teams. They gave up 226.1 passing yards per game and 123.8 rushing yards per game. They only recorded 31 sacks as well. Not one member of this defense had 100 tackles, with a few coming very close. They were also -8 in takeaway differential. They racked up just 17 INT’s and had just 14 forced fumbles
There is not an easy answer for this team. Adding a young QB and #1 receiver in the draft would go along way towards improvement, but even that will be tough as they do not have a second round pick in the coming NFL draft. Of course this team also needs talent on the defense, so they may decide that one of their young QB’s on the roster deserves a bigger shot at the starting job and add a premier talent to the defense. We shall see.
