ComScore data suggests that Facebook users are spending more time on mobile devices, but less time on their desktop computers. In an increasingly busy lifestyle, mobile devices are proving to be more versatile and accessible than anything you need to sit down in front of.
According to Forbes , ComScore data shows that US mobile Internet usage from both browsers and apps rose significantly though in the small percentages. Desktop usage shows quite the opposite trend.
Facebook ‘s focus on putting mobile first is paying off. Facebook is the largest social network in the world, and the Facebook app took the highest usage of all social network apps on Android and iPhone in the United States in 2012. As previously reported by The Inquisitr , Facebook has launched a new mobile Messenger update which includes voice messages.
According to CNN , Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated:
“In 2012, we connected over a billion people and became a mobile company.”
This is great news for Facebook , which is conjuring a way to make money off all those smartphone and tablet users, most likely keeping it free for the casual user. Facebook ‘s biggest earner is advertising, which makes up most of its revenue. And let’s not forget the Zynga games such as Farmville 2 and Cafe World , which use gift cards purchasable in major retail outlets such as Walmart to offer special exclusives.
However, Facebook is looking into expanding beyond Zynga for its online game revenue. Facebook is constantly searching for profitability from users and partners, with a steady stream of features and ads such as charging to message Mark Zuckerburg and anyone not on your friends list. Recent smaller projects that are still being tested include Facebook Gifts , which lets you buy real and virtual goods for friends.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , Facebook has launched one of its biggest new changes in Graph Search , though this feature currently remains in the beta stages and only on desktop browsers.
Are you excited to see Facebook embracing its growing mobile device market as the desktop usage fades?
