Blake Lively has posted what is probably one of the most enviable breastfeeding selfies of all time, showing her breastfeeding her daughter against the beautiful backdrop of a placid lagoon and rock formation in Thailand.
“The PERKS of breastfeeding. #YesThatsRiceInMyHair #BlondevsBronde #BrondeJamesBronde”
As People reports, Blake is in Thailand shooting scenes for her upcoming movie, All I See Is You , and she brought 7-month-old daughter James along for the shoot. Between takes, it looks like Blake has found the time to not only breastfeed her daughter, but post selfies of herself doing so — with the camera posed tastefully to make for a beautiful shot while at the same time avoiding giving the pervs something to gawk at.
As any breastfeeding mom will tell you, it’s a full-time job, and neither your baby (nor your body) care what you do for a living. In an April Los Angeles Times interview , Lively described her difficulties juggling breastfeeding with being a professional actress.
“I wish my child adhered by the Lionsgate press schedule.”
Lively and her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, had initially tried to keep her pregnancy a secret, according to the Times , but when paparazzi spotted her and Reynolds on vacation with Blake sporting an obvious baby bump, her cover was blown. Still, she managed to keep the personal details of her baby under wraps as much as possible; she didn’t make a big announcement to the media when James was born, and she and Ryan even kept her name a secret, for a few months anyway.
James came in the midst of a career upheaval for Blake Lively. The now 27-year-old actress was frustrated creatively after six years of playing Serena van der Woodsen on the CW’s Gossip Girl . She told her Times interviewer that the show’s production schedule meant the quality of her work suffered. Eventually, doing the job became so routine that her heart wasn’t in it.
“You’re part of this machine — this pop culture phenomenon — but as an actor, the quality of your work is definitely compromised because of that. When I finished the last season, I didn’t feel good at it anymore. I didn’t feel stimulated. It had become muscle memory, but not good muscle memory — like bad-habit muscle memory.”
But re-directing her career focus, and becoming a mom, have given Blake a new lease on life. She’s still cautious about exposing her daughter to the media, though; you’ll notice that her breastfeeding selfie is positioned to exclude the baby.
