Robert De Niro is most well known for his starring roles in mob-related films over the past few decades. From The Godfather to Casino , Goodfellas , and Analyze This , the mobster role is one that De Niro easily falls into. However, as Page Six recently reported, this notable actor of the popular genre of film has never watched an episode of the mobster award-winning series The Sopranos .
Page Six shares in regards to the subject and an interview between Robert and Cigar Aficionado Magazine for their October issue, when the interviewer questioned De Niro as to his TV viewing habits. When asked if he ever watched TV, De Niro replied honestly.
“Not much, but it depends.”
About whether the star watched the hit show The Sopranos , De Niro gave a flat out “No” response, adding, “I heard about it. It was very good.”
The smash series was shown on HBO and had a run from 1999 to 2007. Created by David Chase, the show starred James Gandolfini, Lorrain Bracco, and Edie Falco.
De Niro, who has starred in a number of Martin Scorsese-directed films, many of which have been mob-related, also opened up to the magazine about not being considered for the director’s HBO gangster series Boardwalk Empire . As Entertainment Weekly relays, De Niro responded to the interviewer with only the best views and words about the well-known director.
“No, Marty didn’t ask me, but that’s fine. [H]e had his reasons, and it might not have even occurred to him to ask me about it. He’s very easy [as a director] he goes with your ideas, he’s very, very flexible, and takes whatever he can from every actor. Yet he’s very clear as a director, and guides it, the piece, in the direction he feels he should. He gives you a lot of support.”
The 72-year-old has got a multitude of successful films under his belt that span numerous decades. It is unthinkable that such a talent would ever stress about a finished product. However, De Niro recently shared that only now has he stopped stressing quite so much about a film’s final result. De Niro chatted with tele5.de on the subject last month.
“The only thing that’s changed is how much more relaxed I am and that I no longer worry so much about the end product. But I think that’s just something that comes with experience. I used to get stressed all the time, now I’m more chilled about everything.”
