Crytek GmbH has announced that it intends to move forward with plans for a Homefront sequel after acquiring rights to the series during the recent THQ auction.
According to the official press release , the company entered into a partnership with THQ to develop Homefront 2 in 2011. After the publisher declared bankruptcy, Crytek quickly moved to secure rights to the first-person shooter.
Nick Button-Brown, General Manager of Games at Crytek, explained:
“From day one, the ‘Homefront 2’ team has been committed to creating a game that takes the series to new heights and features the level of quality and innovation associated with Crytek. Nothing has changed with regards our development of the game, and we look forward to sharing the finished product with players.”
Although the THQ bankruptcy has put a hiccup in Crytek’s plans for the title, the company remains focused on delivering a quality follow-up to the 2011 shooter.
Cyrtek CEO Cevat Yerli added:
“Since we first reached an agreement to develop ‘Homefront 2,’ we’ve been firm believers in the IP and its potential to excite and amaze players. Our cooperation with THQ was always positive and we would like to thank them for all their support over the last two years and express our sympathy to those affected by the recent events at the company.”
Although Crytek still has plans to deliver Homefront 2 , it’s currently unknown when the game will arrive on retail shelves. As of this writing, an official release date has not been set.
The Inquisitr previously reported that Deep Silver parent company Koch Media is also quite excited with its recent acquisition of both Saints Row and Metro . Both of the franchises were previously owned by THQ.
The company said in a recent statement:
“Both the Saints Row and the Metro franchises perfectly fit into our future lineup and strategy. We’re really excited to lead these well-respected licenses into a bright new future.”
