Charles Ramsey, the Cleveland man who is credited with rescuing kidnap victim Amanda Berry yesterday, became an instant national celebrity and hero after his colorful interview with a local TV station.
But you need to listen to Ramsey’s equally epic 911 call (see embed below).
Authorities report that Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight were left alone and tied up inside a home by their captors. Charles Ramsey, the neighbor, heard screaming from inside the residence. As he approached the home, he realized someone was inside kicking and screaming, “I’ve been kidnapped and I’ve been in this house a long time and I want to leave right now.” Berry had been held against her will for 10 years by suspect Ariel Castro and two others.
Given that this story has a happy ending, Ramsey’s “folksy” 911 call be fully appreciated for its earthy, street-smart charm [ Warning: offensive language].
Ramsey opens up by giving the 911 dispatcher his address and then saying: “Hey bro … check this out. I just came from McDonald’s, right? I’m on my porch eating my little food, right? This broad is trying to break out of the f******g house next to me.”
When he asked the woman — who turned out to be Amanda Berry — what the problem is, in Ramsey’s words, “This m****r f****r done kidnapped me and my daughter and we’ve been in this bitch.”
When he and the dispatcher have some temporary confusion over Ramsey’s address and the address where Berry and the other women were imprisoned, Ramsey immediately responds “I’m smarter than that brah; I’m telling you where the crime was.”
After the dispatcher asks Ramsey if Berry needs an ambulance, Ramsey declares “She needs everything; she in a panic brah. I think she’s been kidnapped, so you know, put yourself in her shoes.”
