In a clip from the upcoming episode of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta , reality TV star and attorney Phaedra Parks went through a terrifying ordeal after she was targeted in a bomb scare at her law offices. The bomb threat, which took place last summer, happened while she was in Philadelphia for the Democratic National Convention and she opened up about the only thing that was going through her mind at the time of the threat—her two young children.
Phaedra is a mom to 6-year-old Ayden and 3-year-old Dylan—whom she shares with her ex-husband Apollo Nida. The mom-of-two shared a sneak peek from the upcoming episode where she received news of the bomb threat on her Instagram page, and she explained how she felt during that scene.
“In this moment, all I could think about were my kids,” the Real Housewives of Atlanta star wrote in the caption.
On the morning of July 28, Atlanta Police confirmed that a man named Terrence Cook walked into the building where offices for Phaedra’s law practice The Parks Group is located, Entertainment Tonight reported. Cook, who was reportedly an unhappy client of Phaedra’s, said that he was “tired of being treated wrongly” and he also told employees that he had a bomb.
At the time of the incident, Cook was carrying a FedEx envelope and a book and was looking specifically for Phaedra, although he never reached the floor where the Real Housewives of Atlanta star’s offices are located.
Cook was taken into police custody that morning, according to People . No bombs were found and the scene was cleared by 11:30 a.m., and Cook was charged with making terroristic threats and creating a false public alarm.
A witness recorded smartphone footage at the scene of the crime and uploaded the clips to Instagram. In one particular video, the witness said that a bomb squad, police cars, and ambulances were parked along the street outside of the office building while helicopters hovered above, temporarily shutting down the street.
Bravo cameras were rolling at the time and captured Phaedra’s reaction. In the Real Housewives of Atlanta clip, Phaedra is sitting down in the backseat of a car shortly after she received the terrifying news and she immediately called her mother, Pastor Regina.
“Mama, keep the alarm on and keep an eye out, get the children,” Phaedra said.
“Okay, listen,” Regina said. “Calm down,” she added.
“If anybody’s that crazy to try to bring a bomb, you know what I’m saying?” Phaedra said.
“I know, I’ve got the kids,” her mother told her.
“We’ll be alright. Just take care of what’s there and I can take care of what I need to do here.”
Meanwhile, news of the bomb threat spread quickly back in Atlanta. Phaedra’s fellow Real Housewives of Atlanta co-stars were enjoying a lunch together when Phaedra’s former best friend Kandi Burruss got the frightening news via a phone call, and she relayed the information to the rest of the group.
“This dude came to Phaedra’s office with a grenade and said he was gonna blow the f**king building up,” Kandi said.
“A real grenade! He said he was gonna kill himself and everybody in there.”
But Kandi pointed out that thankfully, Phaedra was not in Atlanta at the time of the bomb threat. She was attending the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia at the time, so she was safe and out of harm’s way.
“I just can’t imagine if something were to happen to Phaedra,” said Kenya Moore, Kandi and Phaedra’s Real Housewives of Atlanta co-star. “I mean, she’s got those two beautiful boys,” she added.
