Ariana Grande, David Guetta Lawsuit: Grande’s Camp ‘Knew He Was Copying Music’

According to an exclusive TMZ report, Ariana Grande and David Guetta are the subject of a lawsuit filed by Canadian songwriter, record producer, and remixer Alex Greggs. Greggs alleges that Grande’s 2014 hit “One Last Time” directly lifted the chorus from a tune he wrote for Skye Stevens in 2012, “Takes All Night.”

If Showbiz Spy is to be believed, an insider from Ariana’s camp claims Guetta “ knew he was copying music from the famous song writer Alex Greggs.”

The insider has gone on to claim that Grande had no part in the copying of the music from Greggs’ hit. Greggs, who has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry such as Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, and Michael Jackson, is reportedly asking for a “large percent of the profits from money made off the song by ‘One Last Time.’”

This isn’t the first time that Guetta has been accused of borrowing creative content without permission. Earlier this year, Diplo and DJ Snake accused him of stealing “Lean On.” DJ Snake and Diplo are the producers on the 2015 song, and their claim is that David borrowed heavily for his track with Zara Larsson, “This One’s For You.” In a series of tweets, he calls him out.

David Guetta’s improprieties extend beyond just these two instances. He is also the subject of a lawsuit along with singer Sam Martin and the song they partnered on, “Dangerous.” Andre Dudek claims that Dangerous borrows heavily from his 1980s track “Illuminations.” It should be noted that “Illuminations” was not copyrighted until 2015. “Dangerous” was released in 2014.

Guetta was also involved in a controversy at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. This time, Guetta and singer Nicki Minaj were accused of stealing the stage design from “ Burning Man art installation known as the HYBYCOZ,” as reported Thump .

Designer Yelena Filipchuck spoke with Thump about how they found out.

“We received several calls in the evening telling on Sunday telling us to turn on the TV to watch the David Guetta performance because our design was popping up all over the stage. It was so egregious that people who weren’t even that familiar with the project sent us messages asking us if we did the stage design!”

Despite Ariana’ camp attempting to take the high road on this one, Grande has had her share of misfires when it comes to public perception. The first actually involves the video to “One Last Time.” This time, Australian band SAFIA accuses the singer of ripping off scenes from the video for their song “You Are the One.” The band later backtracked by stating it would be impossible to prove that one influenced the other.

Plus, who can forget the now-famous donut licking incident. In July of 2015, Grande was caught on tape licking a donut that she did not purchase. In the same video, she also is heard saying she “hated Americans.” This forced the star to issue an apology for her actions, but the damage seems to continue to follow her.
