Katherine Jackson, the mother to the deceased pop legend Michael Jackson, has accused AEG Live of simply watching her son “waste away” as he prepared for the series of concerts that he would ultimately die before performing.
Mrs Jackson had been on the witness stand in the Los Angeles courtroom for two days, and towards the end of her gruelling session the 83-year-old grandmother broke down in tears as she revealed that AEG Live didn’t warn the Jackson family that Michael had hardly slept in 60 days, was paranoid, losing weight, and on the brink of death.
Katherine Jackson stated, “They watched him waste away. They could have called me. He was asking for his father. My grandson told me that his daddy was nervous and scared.”
Michael Jackson planned to play over 50 concerts at London’s O2 arena, which had been organized by AEG Live, and the Jacksons family is currently suing them for several billion dollars worth of damage.
Katherine Jackson also stated she has now only become aware that her son had a fragile state of mind just days before his death, because of the trial.
She has since learnt since the beginning of the trial that Michael was a drug addict, but she is adamant that she never saw her son “loopy, or out of it,” or under the influence of drugs.
Kathering told the jury, “I knew he was taking them [pain pills] but I didn’t know he was abusing them” However on cross examination Mrs Jackson was confronted with evidence that suggested she had previously denied there was every an intervention, which also stated that she had denied Michael Jackson was addicted to drugs and alcohol too.
On Monday, Katherine testified that she didn’t believe her son was responsible for his own death, and that it was the fault of AEG’s hired doctor, Conrad Murray, who was prosecuted of Michael Jackson’s manslaughter in 2011.
The trial continues and is set to conclude at the end of July.
