Darth Vader takes a trip to the Happiest Place on Earth in the latest promotional video from Disney Parks, according to the New York Times . Star Wars fans who were curious to see what Disney would release in the wake of the company’s purchase of LucasFilm are in for a decidedly peculiar experience.
Seeing one of cinema’s most notorious villains wander through Disneyland is sure to ruffle the feathers of hardcore fans, many of whom have not been shy about expressing their feelings about the recent deal. While your first instinct may be to curse the clip and punch your computer, it’s hard to deny that Disney Park’s promotional clip is actually kind of cute.
The ad features Darth Vader engaging in a number of popular Disneyland activities, including a ride on the teacups, a trip through the Haunted Mansion, and a seat on Space Mountain. All the while, the Sith Lord is followed closely by two armed Stormtroopers who appear quite happy to assist their leader on his quest.
Not surprisingly, the Disney Parks promotional video hasn’t settled too well with Star Wars fans. Many have assumed the worst since Disney’s purchase of LucasFilm. The embedded clip is essentially their worst nightmares come to life.
“If you listen closely, you can hear the slicing of wrists by ‘Star Wars’ fans everywhere,” one Twitter user remarked.
Many eagle-eyed Star Wars fans have noted that the Darth Vader ad currently making the rounds uses repurposed footage from Disney’s Star Tours attraction . Last year’s campaign also featured Vader taking a trip to Disneyland with two Stormtroopers in tow. This isn’t necessarily surprising, as it’s a little unrealistic that the company could have pieced together something like this in such a short amount of time.
