‘House of Cards’ Spoof Featured At White House Correspondents Dinner [Video]

A House of Cards video spoof opened last night’s White House Correspondents dinner.

House of Cards is the popular and critically acclaimed Netflix original series starring Kevin Spacey as devious, dealmaking Congressman Frank Underwood. Netflix released all 13 episodes of the first season of House of Cards in February.

Spacey himself was one of the invited guests at the event Saturday evening.

In the House of Nerds spoof, Kevin Spacey stays in character as Underwood as he jockeys — very much House of Cards- like — with narcissistic journalists and politicians for tickets to the dinner, which he calls the “nerd prom.”

At one point in the satirical video, Sen. John McCain banters with Underwood about whether Conan O’Brien was a good pick to host the event.

“He’s the one that got fired from The Tonight Show , right?” McCain asks.

“Yes, and then he moved over to TBS,” Underwood responds.

“Is that a real network?”

“No, but neither is NBC,” Underwood quips.

In another sequence, Underwood/Spacey tells NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg that he he can’t run again. “That’ll put Anthony Weiner in a pickle, and then he’ll tweet that pickle.”

Kevin Spacey still in character as the scheming Frank Underwood ends the video with a monologue that perhaps has a serious subtext:

“Washington and Hollywood, some new faces, some old faces, some new faces on old faces, and I do sympathize, Conan, and not for that backstabbing Leno, but having to host. It must be so hard to write jokes about a town that already is one.

“Democrats, Republicans, White House, Congress—you all came together to make this spoof. That’s what real bipartisanship looks like. I may lie, cheat, and intimate to get what I want, but at least I get the job done. So I hope some of you were taking notes … oh, and Mr. President, welcome to Nerd Prom.”

Watch the House of Cards spoof House of Nerds with Kevin Spacey. Do you think it is funny or is it even more of an indictment of these celebrity-worshipping Beltway nerds?
