Janelle Monae’s new album T he Electric Lady won’t hit stores until September 10 but fans can listen to the new music online today.
The ArchAndroid singer decided to put her new album online (you can listen to it below) a few days ahead of its release.
The Electric Lady features guest appearances from Prince, Erykah Badu, Solange and Miguel.
Monae rose to fame in 2010 with the release of The ArchAndroid . The album featured catchy, jazzy songs and a story about a time-traveling android freedom fighter. The Electric Lady continues the story and is being billed as an “emotion picture” instead of an album.
Monae said: “(The album is a) soundtrack for the Obama era, something that spoke to the beautiful, majestic and revolutionary times that we’re living in.”
MTV agreed that The Electric Lady contains elements of a real-life soundtrack, writing: “Janelle’s second full length… has all the vocal pyrotechnics of an epic guitar solo, but leaves room enough for danceable R&B grooves, hip-hop, funk, soul, reggae, and film score touches. The Electric Lady is a continuation of the sci-fi cyborg thematic storyline she began on The ArchAndroid .”
