Florida Tuskers going local to fill out their roster

I previously reported that the Florida Tuskers had added South Florida QB Matt Grothe to their roster as a backup to QB Brooks Bollinger. Now they have added another Florida football star in wide out Rocky Ross. He was a star receiver for five years at the University of Central Florida, the same school where newly signed Sacramento Mountain Lion QB Daunte Culpepper attended. I have really no clue how good this kid is, but I like that the Tuskers are embracing the addition of local talent. that is what the UFL should be, a league were kids that go undrafted by the NFL can get their pro careers kicked off.

In his College career Ross racked up almost 2,000 receiving yards. He has everything one could want from a wide out: decent size, good speed, and excellent route running ability. He was at a recent Tuskers work out and so impressed Head Coach and General Manger Jay Gruden and WR’s Coach Ike Hillard that the team has brought him aboard to help defense their unbeaten regular season record.

They are going to need a lot of help. The other UFL teams seem to have gotten better in the off season, and the Omaha Nighthawks hit this team hard in the expansion draft. Omaha took eight players that played for the Tuskers in 2009, and while they got to protect their core group of players losing that amount of talent is a severe blow.

More than anything I think we will see and evening of the field each season in the UFL. As players leave teams to take NFL positions, and the GM’s and Coaches are left to plug the holes. I anticipate a good deal of turnover form year to year, but the good team will continually get taken advantage of as the UFL adds teams in each of the next few years.
