Jared Leto has always been looked at as a rather unique individual whether it is when he’s on screen or on stage or waving his long hair and beard around. Now, he’s taken on the role of The Joker for Suicide Squad , which is due out in August, and it’s obvious that his mindset is going to take an even stranger turn. Well, when choosing some parting gifts for his cast mates, Leto went very weird and chose some items that would make The Joker blush.
Before filming began, Leto sent some Joker-style gifts to his co-stars, and that included a live rat to Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn. Will Smith got a collection of bullets, and that’s appropriate since he plays Deadshot in Suicide Squad .
Oh, and the entire cast got a dead pig so no-one would feel left out.
While speaking to E Online!, Leto let it be known that he did that before shooting began so he could fullyget into the character of The Joker. Now, the film is in post-production and shooting has virtually wrapped up entirely, but he’s not letting the role go.
No, he decided to go a different route when sending every one of his cast mates some end-of-shooting gifts. This time, it was used condoms and anal beads instead.
“I did a lot of things to create a dynamic to create an element of surprise, a spontaneity and to really break down any kind of walls that may be there. The Joker is somebody who doesn’t really respect things like personal space or boundaries.”
This is just really and incredibly weird, and it goes far beyond what some may consider to be “getting into the role.” Jared Leto took things to different levels and one has to wonder why he kept it going even after the filming of Suicide Squad had wrapped.
There are some people out there who believe that actors often get too far into their roles and it comes back to haunt them. Actually, a number of people are of the belief that preparing for the role of The Joker in The Dark Knight is what ended up leading to the death of Heath Ledger.
As reported by the Hindustan Times, there was even a documentarymade called “Heath Ledger: Too Young To Die,” and it details some chilling facts. The documentary points to evidence that shows Ledger got so obsessed with his role of The Joker that it led to him overdosing on painkillers in January of 2008.
Heath Ledger was just 28-years-old.
It’s hard to say if his role as The Joker is what led to the death of Heath Ledger, but it is known that he did get very into the part. Many actors have been known to do that, and some have gone overboard before in doing so.
Jared Leto is one of those people who is simply trying to take his character and make it the best one humanly possible. Co-star Will Smith thinks that Leto did a great job and succeeded in accomplishing his goal.
“He went full Joker. He really set the tone. He wasn’t playing with it. He was dead serious as an actor. He was going in and he was 100 percent going into this character.”
Fans are and have been skeptical of how Jared Leto will pull off the role of The Joker in Suicide Squad , but there was little faith in Heath Ledger at first too. Maybe he was just being weird with his gifts of adult toys for his castmates, or maybe he was just trying to keep the persona of The Joker going strong.
