Sagittarius , a sci-fi thriller, has been picked up by Universal.

The pitch from the Star Trek and Transformers reboot team of Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman will have relative newcomer Steven Karczynski attached as writer , Deadline reported on Wednesday.

Karczynski has a very limited resume . According to IMDb , his script for Balloon Farm in 1999 made it to the small screen, but beyond that, he has only adapted the Capcom video game Dark Void for Reliance and Plan B Entertainment, Deadline noted.

His script Umbra is set up with Endgame Entertainment. Martin Campbell ( Casino Royale ) will direct that tale of a business man who receives a mysterious package and finds himself swept up in a government plot.

Umbra will only be based off Karczynski’s earlier script. Sharing rewrite chores on the project are Paul Haggis (also Casino Royale ) and Joe Carnahan ( The Grey ), according to IMDb .

Unfortunately, details on the Sagittarius sci-fi thriller have not been so forthcoming, and Kurtzman and Orci haven’t released any statements as to what drew them to the project.

However, they’re on board enough to produce the film for their K/O Paper Products at Universal and will join with K/O president Bobby Cohen in sharing the credit.

Kurtzman and Orci have forged a reputation for breathing new life into popular franchises like the aforementioned Star Trek and Transformers series.

While their efforts have not always been successful — Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen , anyone? — they have been well-received by general audiences and some of the more open-minded fans out there.

In keeping with this concept, they are currently reworking the classic horror tale The Legend of Sleepy Hollow . This Sagittarius sci-fi thriller, though an original concept, should be right in their previously-established wheelhouse.

Are you excited to hear about Sagittarius , and are you looking forward to the Star Trek and Transformers team’s next foray into sci-fi with Star Trek Into Darkness ?
