2010 NFL Draft in review: New York Jets

This was a team one win away from a trip to the Super Bowl with a rookie QB. Not to bad, and it means they can do essentially anything in the draft and make the team better. The Jets took the best player available option, and with the 29th scored a great corner in Kyle Wilson. He likely will play a lot at nickel back and maybe even as a punt returner. Since teh Jets play a lot of Nickel and dime this pick makes all kinds of sense. Kyle also ahs that on the field toughness and grit required by Head Coach Rex Ryan.

In the second round they took OT Vlad Ducasse. They would like to see him move inside to guard to replace the salary dump of LG Alan Faneca. I don’t see that happening but at 6-4, and 332 pounds anything may be possible. With their last two picks they picked up RB Joe McKnight, and FB Joe Conner. Conner is an ideal candidate for the lead blocker position on this club, while McKnight will join crowded rotation at RB, and possibly see special team’s duty as well.

It might have been an unconventional draft, but the Jets a re a little unconventional, and with that being said here is a look at the initial grades for their 2010 draft class:

  • Round One – A, Wilson is a great talent who went to a smaller school
  • Round Two – B, Ducasse is huge and has big upside
  • Talent A, they land two highly touted prospects and two guys to fit their backfield rotation
  • Need- C, They failed to find depth on the DL and will have to rely on undrafted free agents there
  • Average- B
