Jason Statham shows no signs of slowing down as an action film star. From his beginnings with “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and Jet Li’s “The One” , he has shown his mettle time and again. He has also been in such notable films as the “Transporter” series, “The Expendables” , “Crank” , and the theatrical debut of “Death Race” .
Statham has always seemed to thrive as the criminal in action films, and “Parker” is no different.
“Parker ” is a crime thriller where Statham plays a thief who lives by a moral code, much like his role in the “Transporter” films.
Statham describes his character:
“He’s involved in criminal activities but he perceives all business to be in some way crooked. He never steals from people he feels can’t afford it and he doesn’t hurt people that don’t deserve it. So there’s a likeable quality to this anti-hero.”
The character “Parker” first appeared in the 1962 novel “The Hunter” , the first of more than 20 books to feature the career criminal written by prolific author Donald E. Westlake under the pen name Richard Stark, says Entertainment Weekly .
Explains Statham:
“Parker adopts a couple of misleading disguises and that’s why you see me in a Stetson.”
The synopsis follows Parker as on his latest heist, his crew double crosses him, steals his stash, and leaves him for dead. Determined to make sure they regret it, he hunts them down to Palm Beach, playground of the rich and famous, where the crew is planning their biggest heist ever, says JustJared.com .
Jennifer Lopez plays Leslie, a savvy insider with not much cash, but who makes up for it in looks, smarts and ambition. Together, they plan to hijack the heist , take everyone down and get away clean.
“Parker” hits theaters everywhere on January 25, 2013.
