‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ Will Have Satisfying Ending, Room For Sequel

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will have a satisfying ending and room for a sequel, says game writer Darby McDevitt.

One thing Assassin’s Creed games have in common that might get on a gamer’s nerves is that the endings always seem to be massive cliffhangers. The first game didn’t even have what we might consider an ending, as it left us with Desmond Miles basically staring at a wall covered in odd symbols, a direct result of what his team members called the “bleeding effect” in Assassin’s Creed II .

Assassin’s Creed II ended with Desmond, Lucy, and the gang stopping Abstergo from capturing the whole lot of them after Minerva spoke to Desmond Miles through Ezio. The two games after that dealt with Desmond’s battle with the “bleeding effect,” with help from “Subject 16,” a man trapped in the program after losing all connection with present day reality.

Assassin’s Creed III once again ended with a big cliffhanger .

The game’s lead writer may be changing that with Assassin’s Creed IV : Black Flag . Like most movie series that start strong, the game is said to have a satisfying ending this time, and leave some loose ends open for a sequel. Few game developers know how the first game in the series will be received, or even if it will be successful, making a satisfying ending just in case there won’t be a sequel.

Ubisoft has claimed, however, that there will be a new Assassin’s Creed every year as long as it’s successful, as previously reported by The Inquisitr . This means that given the previous successes, the franchise could just as easily keep giving us cliffhangers as long as we keep buying them. Game writer Darby McDevitt says that won’t happen this time around, giving the pirate entry in the series something to end it with.

There will most undoubtedly be an Assassin’s Creed V , picking up the loose ends from where Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag ended, so the inclusion of a satisfying ending shouldn’t worry long-time fans of the franchise.

What do you think of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag getting a satisfying ending and leaving room for a sequel? Would you still buy it if it ended in another cliffhanger?
