Actress Helen Mirren debuted her new pink hair at the BAFTA Awards in London. The reason: She’s Helen Hirren.
The 67-year-old star of The Queen rocked the new look at the awards ceremony on Sunday. According to Yahoo! News , the actress just felt like making a change.
Mirren said:
“I just thought it would be fun to dye my hair pink I mean, honestly, I was watching America’s Next Top Model and the season where there were the British girls. Well the British girl who won [Sophie Sumner], she had pink hair, and I thought, ‘That looks really pretty.’ So I’m copying her, basically.”
According the Daily Mail , the actress was up for Best Actress for her turn as Alma Reville in director Sacha Gervasi’s Hitchcock . The film explores the relationship between the iconic filmmaker and his wife during the creation of his classic 1960 thriller Psycho .
However, the actress ultimately lost to 85-year-old Amour star Emmanuelle Riva.
Mirren told the Yorkshire Evening Post that she didn’t know anything about the relationship between Alma and Alfred before filming began.
She said:
“It is a love story. And I think that Alma and Hitch were, in their own funny, unglamorous way, a great kind of Romeo and Juliet partnership. They were amazing partners in life and I think they could teach us all something about how to make a successful marriage.”
Helen Mirren just recently wrapped production on Dean Parisot’s Red 2 , the sequel to the hit 2010 action flick starring Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, and Mary-Louise Parker. The actress will reprise her role as sophisticated assassin Victoria. The follow-up is currently slated to arrive in theaters on August 2.
Mirren can also be found in writer-director David Mamet’s upcoming HBO flick Phil Spector . The actress portrays defense attorney Linda Kenney Baden in the movie.
