J.K. Rowling isn’t happy that everyone knows she penned the acclaimed crime novel The Cuckoo’s Calling . In fact, you could say she’s downright angry about it.
Although the world assumed that someone by the name of Robert Galbraith wrote the book, the real author was someone a bit more famous. The Sunday Times was responsible for uncovering the truth.
According to Entertainment Weekly , the newspaper received a tip that J.K. Rowling was responsible for penning the novel. As it turns out, one of the partners at the law firm Russells told his wife about the pseudonym. She ended up telling one of her friends, who turned around the leaked it on Twitter.
Russells reportedly specializes in entertainment law. Since the leak doesn’t cast the firm in a very positive light, a representative was quick to issue an apology for the fiasco.
“We can confirm that this leak was not part of any marketing plan and that neither J.K. Rowling, her agent nor publishers were in any way involved,” the law firm said in a statement.
Fox News reports that Rowling is extremely unhappy that someone at Russells had a hand in the leak. The award-winning author said in a statement that she was “angry” the information ended up going public.
“To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. I had assumed that I could expect total confidentiality from Russells, a reputable professional firm, and I feel very angry that my trust turned out to be misplaced,” Rowling explained.
When the news first leaked, the Harry Potter mastermind said she had hoped to keep up the charade a while longer. Writing under the name Robert Galbraith gave her the freedom she didn’t have as J.K. Rowling .
“I hoped to keep this secret a little longer, because being Robert Galbraith has been such a liberating experience! It has been wonderful to publish without hype or expectation and pure pleasure to get feedback from publishers and readers under a different name,” she said.
