Police are questioning two persons of interest in the murder of Chicago teen Hadiya Pendleton.
The 15-year-old was shot and killed, just over a week after the honor student performed with the King College Prep band during President Obama’s inauguration.
According to the Chicago Tribune , the two persons of interest — a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old — were pulled over around 67th Street and South Chicago Avenue early Sunday morning after police tracked down witnesses to the shooting. Currently, no charges have been filed agains the two men.
News that police had tracked down the two men came one day after hundreds of people, including First Lady Michelle Obama, attended Pendleton’s funeral at Greater Harvest Baptist Church.
Shatira Wilks, Pendleton’s cousin and the family’s spokesperson said that an arrest and charges “will bring a small level of closure to the family, although (the shooter) still will be allowed to eat, drink, mingle.”
“The thing about that is, Hadiya is no longer to do so,” she added.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , Pendleton was fatally shot on January 29 around 2:20 pm. A 16-year-old boy was also shot and was in serious condition. Pendleton’s death happened during the deadliest January in Chicago in a decade . By the end of January, there were 42 homicides in the city. The last time there were that many homicides was in 2002, when 45 people were killed.
