Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers is coming to Blu-ray and DVD this summer.
The director’s acclaimed drama finds a group of teenage vacationers embarking on a crime spree after hooking up with a gangster named Alien (James Franco). Although Korine has made a number of films over the years, his latest effort was considered by many to be his most accessible effort to-date.
In a brilliant stroke of casting, Harmony Korine was able to convince family-friendly actresses Selena Gomez ( Wizards of Waverly Place ) and Vanessa Hudgens ( High School Musical ) to star in a very raunchy R-rated flick. The gamble payed off, as the movie became one of the year’s high-grossing indie flicks.
The $5 million dollar feature managed to bring in an impressive $13.8 million in only a handful of theaters across the country. The movie stands to make even more money once it finds its way onto home video.
The film has been described as follows:
“Brit, Candy, Cotty, and Faith have been best friends since grade school. They live together in a boring college dorm and are hungry for adventure. All they have to do is save enough money for spring break to get their shot at having some real fun. A serendipitous encounter with rapper “Alien” promises to provide the girls with all the thrill and excitement they could hope for. With the encouragement of their new friend, it soon becomes unclear how far the girls are willing to go to experience a spring break they will never forget.”
Since Spring Breakers was only available in select markets during its theatrical run, many people didn’t get an opportunity to catch the film in cinemas. Those folks who missed it will be able to finally see the Korine’s controversial crime drama this July.
Both the Blu-ray and DVD release of the flick will contain a host of extras. Included in the bonus features are deleted scenes, featurettes, trailers, and a three-part documentary chronicling the creation of Korine’s latest effort. Both discs will also include commentary from the director.
Spring Breakers will be available for purchasing on July 9. Are you planning to pick up a copy on Blu-ray or DVD this summer?
