Daniel Day-Lewis may have already won the award for best political doppelganger for his uncanny resemblance to Abraham Lincoln , but Jane Fonda could be coming in a close second as Nancy Reagan.
The world got a first look at Fonda as Reagan today when Oprah Winfrey tweeted a photo from the set of The Butler.
According to Advocate , Winfrey is playing Gloria Gaines, the wife of Cecil Gaines (played by Forest Whitaker), the white house butler that served under 8 presidents. The movie will follow Gaines as he butlers for Richard Nixon (John Cusack), Dwight Eisenhower (Robin Williams), John F. Kennedy (James Marsden), Ronald Reagan (Alan Rickman), and Lyndon B. Johnson (Liev Schrieber).
Winfrey tweeted a photo from the set, writing:
“Director @LeeDaniels, @JaneFonda as Nancy Reagan, Alan Rickman as Prez Reagan and me gonna be a long nit”
Due to the scope of the movie, Fonda will only appear in a few scenes. Still, the casting choice made headlines earlier this year since Fonda is an outspoken liberal activist .
Here’s a picture of Jane Fonda as Nancy Reagan and Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan.
Do you think it was a good casting choice?
The movie will also star Lenny Kravitz, Alex Pettyfer, and Cuba Gooding Jr.
