Electronic Arts promised to fix server issues for SimCity with the release of Patch 2.0. Since releasing that update, user complaints have only worsened.
The patch was released earlier this week, and users quickly took to gaming forums to complain about an overall worsening gameplay experience.
New issues that have surfaced now include modeling issues, leader boards showing up with lost and no data, and issues with the newly restored “Cheetah mode.” Users are also complaining of unusable old cities, issues with graphics, and traffic pathing problems that existed even before the patch.
Electronic Arts is being hit from all ends as users take to Reddit to show off newly discovered bugs and via the game’s official forums.
Many users are complaining of increasing server issues that have made the game almost unplayable. In many cases, the game is crashing on desktops while some cities are stuck without the ability to build new zones.
In one of the more funny bug complaints, the games sound bugs have worsened with trees making the streetcar noises.
Speaking about the patch 2.o situation, Kotaku writer Kirk Hamilton writes, A”as time goes on and the dust settles, we’ll have a clearer picture of just what’s new with the 2.0 patch; what’s gotten better, and what’s gotten worse. But it does seem for the moment that at the very least, the 2.0 update isn’t going to give SimCity the overhaul it needs.”
More buggy issues are not good news for Electronic Arts. The gaming developer plans to start shipping SimCity for Mac on June 11. EA/Maxis has not revealed whether or not a new patch will be issued before its Mac version of SimCity arrives for sale.
Do you think SimCity can redeem itself with Patch 3.0, or have the issues that are mounting against the game likely caused too much damage?
