Street Fighter IV is adding five new characters to its roster!

It looks like Capcom is back to its Street Fighter II days of updating one game with no sequel in sight. Yet another update to Street Fighter IV will add five new characters, which likely means five new stages to fight in as well.

Street Fighter II was notorious for being updated to new titles back in its day, with Capcom releasing Street Fighter II: Champion Edition , Street Fighter II: Turbo Hyper Fighting , Super Street Fighter II , and Super Street Fighter II: Turbo , one after the other. It spawned a joke back then that after Mega Man 3 , Capcom had forgotten how to count past two, as previously reported by The Inquisitr .

Now it appears that Capcom is back at it, on the verge of releasing yet another update to Street Fighter IV . Previous updates included Super Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition , and now we’re getting yet another one, Capcom announced via the EVO 2013 fighting-game tournament in Las Vegas.

The new characters we know include the following:

Rolento is a character from Final Fight who made his next appearance in the Street Fighter Alpha series. He uses a bo staff and grenades in a Special Forces fighting style.

Elena is a kick-happy character like Chun-Li, but will use Capoeira, a fighting style made popular by the slaves in Brazil. She made her first appearance in Street Fighter III .

Poison is a Final Fight character who made her way to Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact with a self-taught fighting style.

Hugo is a pro wrestler most likely modeled after Andre the Giant. He made his first appearance in Final Fight before reappearing in Street Fighter III .

The fifth character is completely new to the Street Fighter franchise, and its name is not yet known.

Capcom will not announce a release date for this update to Street Fighter IV until early 2014. However, they are planning on releasing a trailer tomorrow before the end of the tournament.

What do you think of the new characters being added to Street Fighter IV ?

[Update] The new characters will be DLC for Super Street Fighter IV , not part of a new game.

[Update as of July 14] The new characters will not only be DLC for Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition , but the original Street Fighter IV as well, for $14.99 at an as-of-yet unstated future date. The physical disc including the game and all updates up to that point will be released around the same time for $39.99.
