Though Angelina Jolie has received a lot of praise for her bold preventative double mastectomy, there are a handful of folks still questioning her decision.
Actress Salma Hayek said during an interview with Univision’s “ El Gordo y la Flaca ” that she might have waited it out a little longer.
“I don’t know if I would have done the same [as Jolie] so quickly, perhaps I would have had more faith, thought more positively that nothing was going to happen to me,” Hayek admitted.
“But you know, I don’t know, it’s not fair to put yourself in that situation when you haven’t been in it. I respect her decision a lot, of course. Plus, she looks great,” she concluded.
Angelina Jolie quietly underwent a preventative double mastectomy earlier this year after finding out that she carries a unique gene that dramatically increases her risk of developing breast cancer. She wrote about her decision in The New York Times after she completed the three-month process.
She has been praised by many for her shamelessness in revealing her decision to the public, but was most famously criticized by musician Melissa Etheridge who said she “wouldn’t call it the brave choice.”
“I actually think it’s the most fearful choice you can make when confronting anything with cancer.”
Many cancer experts disagreed with Etheridge , asking whether it’d be more “brave” to just face cancer. Angelina Jolie’s partner Brad Pitt also said that he would likely chat with Etheridge over the phone about her comments, calling her “an old friend.”
Do you agree with Salma Hayek? Should Angelina Jolie have had “more faith” before resorting to a double mastectomy?
