The first official trailer for Seventh Son has arrived online.

This is shaping up to be an interesting year for Jeff Bridges fans. If you don’t want to watch the True Grit star battle creatures of all shapes and sizes in a typical fantasy setting, then you can catch him fight supernatural baddies as an otherworldly cop in R.I.P.D. . The choice is yours.

Based on the novel by Joseph Delaney, Seventh Son tells the story of a young man who helps a “Spook” by the name of Master Gregory battle an array of horrifying monsters. In other words, it’s not too different than the Jeff Bridges film that’s set to open in theaters later this month.

Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan director Sergey Bodrov is bringing the adaptation of Seventh Son to the big screen. In addition to Bridges, the adventure flick stars Julianne Moore , Ben Barnes, Jason Scott Lee, and Djimon Hounsou.

Unfortunately for moviegoers, Seventh Son has been pushed back from its original release date. The movie was originally slated to hit theaters right before Halloween. However, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures made the curious decision to shove it into the middle of January.

Those of you who follow the industry know that the beginning of the year is a terrible time for movies. Unless you’re pushing an action flick with a good hook, chances are your endeavor isn’t going to get much love at the box office. It will be interesting to see how well this flick performs with stars like Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore at the forefront.

While they’re waiting for Bodrov’s adaptation to hit theaters, Bridges fans can catch the actor in Robert Schwentke’s R.I.P.D. . The movie is currently slated to arrive in cinemas across North America on July 19.

Are you a fan of Jeff Bridges? Do you plan to catch Sergey Bodrov’s adaptation of Joseph Delaney’s Seventh Son when it hits theaters on January 17, 2014?
