Iron Throne In HBO’s ‘Game Of Thrones’ Is Wrong

The Iron Throne in HBO’s Game Of Thrones is actually wrong according to series author George R.R. Martin.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr , season four of Game Of Thrones started filming recently.

The HBO version of the famous book series actually has a ways to catch up, and we’re not just talking about the story, since season four would only finish book three in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. The iconic Iron Throne is not quite yet the hulking, monstrous beast that the author envisions.

George R.R. Martin says many artists have tried drawing out the Iron Throne but none of them have been “quite right” according to his mind’s eye:

“It’s not the Iron Throne I see when I’m working on THE WINDS OF WINTER. It’s not the Iron Throne I want my readers to see. The way the throne is described in the books… HUGE, hulking, black and twisted, with the steep iron stairs in front, the high seat from which the king looks DOWN on everyone in the court… my throne is a hunched beast looming over the throne room, ugly and assymetric…”

But artist Marc Simonetti has created a rough draft artwork of the Iron Throne and it “has come closer here to capturing the Iron Throne as I picture it than any other artist to tackle it. From now on, THIS will be the reference I give to every other artist tackling a throne room scene.”

Despite having a better reference for the Iron Throne, HBO’s Game of Thrones is still likely to depart from the vision set forth in the books. Even George R.R. Martin was shocked by the number of deaths in the Red Wedding . Game Of Thrones writer and producer, David Benioff, even thinks the Game of Thrones show might catch up with the books , which might lead to some interesting conflicts.
