A N.C condo deck collapsed last night in Ocean Isle Beach. The accident sent more than 20 people to the hospital.

According to Hampton Roads, about 25 people were standing on the second-story deck at a condominium in North Carolina. The N.C. deck collapsed and left 21 people with injuries.

Emergency services director Anthony Marzano said that 13 people were taken to a hospital in Myrtle Beach, one was flown to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington and seven were taken to the Brunswick Novant Medical Center in Supply.

Marzano told NBC that one person suffered a broken leg while another had a broken ankle. None of the injuries were life threatening.

The incident happened at a private home on Ocean Isle Beach. Officials said that the home was being rented at the time of the accident.

Ocean Isle Beach Mayor Debbie Smith said that the incident illustrated a need to hold oceanfront decks to a higher building standard.

Smith said : “I’ve actually had a long-standing opinion of this situation… these oceanfront decks need to be held to a higher standard than North Carolina laws require.”

Smith than added: “I understand it was a family staying there… Please keep them in your prayers.”
