Steve Carell will be guesting on an upcoming Pawn Stars episode.
The actor/comedian and former Office star is scheduled to appear on the March 11 episode, where he will somehow just wander in by chance like an ordinary tourist (or “punter” as they might say in the UK) and bargain with Rick , the Old Man, Corey, and Chumlee for an item.
Still think reality shows are “real”?
The Steve Carell appearance on Pawn Stars is part of the marketing for Carell’s new big-screen film The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, which did much of its shooting in Vegas, where the famous History Channel pawn shop is located. Carell plays a magician in the new movie.
According to Entertainment Weekly , the Pawn Stars episode will also feature a commercial hyping Carell’s movie:
“Carell, who along with his daughter is a Pawn Star s fan, also filmed a promotional tie-in spot for the Vegas-shot Burt Wonderstone that will unspool during Pawn Stars ‘ March 11 episode: In the integrated ad, Rick needs help assessing the value of a magician costume so he calls in an ‘expert,’ who is revealed to be Carell.”
By now, everyone knows (or should know) that “reality” shows are far from it, and instead are actually heavily staged and manipulated. MSN notes that this is a correct assessment of how Pawn Stars is produced:
“When the show is shooting, they stuff the shop with actors and extras and close it off to the perennially long line of tourists outside. And when it’s not filming and tourists are allowed to enter, the shop’s famous faces almost never bother coming out front to the counter.”
