WWE News: Goldberg Set To Appear At The ‘Royal Rumble’

The reason for Goldberg’s quick, dominating victory over Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series has been revealed.

According to James McKenna of Pro Wrestling Sheet , Goldberg, who pinned Lesnar after two spears and a Jackhammer in under two minutes at Survivor Series, signed a deal to appear at January’s Royal Rumble. The 49-year-old Goldberg had not wrestled in over 12 years before his dominant victory on Sunday.

The former two-time World Heavyweight champion, per the report, is scheduled to compete in the actual Royal Rumble match. Goldberg has only made one career appearance in the 30-man battle royal; he entered in 2004 but after a distraction from his then-rival Lesnar, Goldberg was eliminated by Kurt Angle.

In the build up to his rematch with Lesnar, Goldberg was asked on numerous occasions if Survivor Series was his last match. NBC Sports asked Goldberg if his “you’re last!” comment towards “The Beast Incarnate” on the night of his return was foreshadowing his final professional wrestling bout.

“I’m sure acting like it. At the end of the day, it’s all that I’m concerned about. I take one day as it is,” he said.

The former NFL player revealed that during his RAW segment this past Monday, he suffered an injury while tossing around security guards that were planted to keep him and Lesnar apart.

“My body feels horrible. I tweaked my shoulder last night [on Raw], but that doesn’t mean in five days that I’m not going to come out kicking ass and taking names like I always do.”

There was also concern that despite his warm reception back into the WWE — which included the WWE 2K17 commercial and pre-order bonus — past issues may prevent a long-term partnership.

As Goldberg told the Inquisitr last year, he did not want to return to WWE and said if he ever returned to the genre, it would be on his terms. Fast forward over one year, Goldberg stood inside a WWE ring, holding back tears, delivering a promo that few expected; speaking about his desire to be a superhero for children around the world.

Goldberg explained to Complex recently that his past problems with WWE have no bearing on his future.

“We always wish for things to be different. Let’s look at the brass tacks of it. I had the opportunity to work at the WWE as one of their superstars. How bad could it have been?” Goldberg quipped.

“Would I have liked for it to be a little different? Absolutely. Would I have liked to not have a wig on two weeks into the deal and then change my music and have everyone and their mother [use the] Spear? Absolutely. But if my aunt had balls, she would be my uncle. You can’t always have things your way, man. You have to adapt and overcome like the military, the true heroes of the world.”

Now, Wrestlemania season is creeping closer and with a Royal Rumble appearance scheduled, Goldberg seems like he’s just beginning his WWE return. McKenna’s report stated that it’s possible a third Lesnar vs. Goldberg match occurs.

It’s unclear if a Wrestlemania 33 appearance or match is in his future — if it is, it’d be Goldberg’s second appearance at the grand event, the first being his initial match against Lesnar. But it’s clear Goldberg’s time with WWE is not over.
