‘Grand Theft Auto V’ On Xbox 360 Comes On Two Discs, Requires Install

Planning on playing Grand Theft Auto V on the Xbox 360 when it releases on September 17? If so, you may want to make sure that you have plenty of hard-drive space when the time comes.

In a Q&A blog post (via Edge Online ) over on Rockstar’s website, the developer confirmed that the Xbox 360 version of the game will ship on two discs. Additionally, installation will apparently be mandatory – and you’ll be needing a fair amount of free space.

“This initial install will require an Xbox 360 Hard Drive or an external 16GB USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space,” Rockstar wrote in the blog post.

As Rockstar pointed out, those of you with the old 20GB Xbox 360 variant have the option of using a 16GB USB flash drive if you find yourself lacking in hard-drive space – but before you pick up any old flash drive you’ll need to make sure it’s capable enough to handle Grand Theft Auto V ‘s requirements.

“If using a USB flash drive it must be at least USB 2.0 with a minimum 15mb/s read speed and formatted for Xbox 360 use,” Rockstar explained. “A new USB flash drive is recommended to ensure optimum performance.”

The good news, at least, is that Rockstar has confirmed that you will not be required to switch discs once Grand Theft Auto V is installed on your Xbox 360. The first disc will be used for installing the game, and the second disc will be used for playing it.

This includes game’s multiplayer component which, according to the post, is being called Grand Theft Auto Online .

Given that the PlayStation 3 uses Blu-Ray discs, that version of Grand Theft Auto V will ship on only one disc. With that being said, you’ll still have to wait until the game installs before playing.
