Former country star Mindy McCready has experienced a lot of loss and many an uphill battle in her life, and now, we regrettably report that her boyfriend passed away on January 13 at the age of 34.
Songwriter/producer David Wilson was the father of McCready’s 9-month-old baby son, Zayne, and was helping the onetime star to raise her older son, six-year-old Zander, reports MSN . Wilson’s cause of death was undisclosed. He was 34-years-old.
In a media statement, McCready said:
“Today, we mourn the loss of my life partner and my children’s father, David Wilson. David was my soul mate; he was a caregiver and guiding hand to our sons, Zander and Zayne. He was a precious gift from God to all of us and, yesterday, he returned home and is now with his mother and father. David loved and he was loved. Those who knew and loved him will miss him; those who did not know David missed the opportunity to know a truly loving and gifted man.”
McCready, 37, was in the news last year after she was accused of kidnapping her son Zander from Gayle Inge, the child’s maternal grandmother. Inge had obtained custody in 2007 after McCready fell into a series of troubles including drug abuse, drunk driving, and a suicide attempt. She was not charged with a crime at that time, though she was in violation or a judge’s custody order.
“I’m doing all this to protect Zander, not stay out of trouble,” She told the AP at the time. “I don’t think I should be in trouble for protecting my son in the first place.”
Our thoughts go out to Mindy McCready and her family during this trying time. I find that McCready’s own song, “You’ll Never Know,” may be appropriate:
