Bill Goldberg was one of the biggest stars in WCW but sat out after the WWE purchased the company to collect his full contract from Time Warner. When he finally made his debut in the WWE, he was successful but was nowhere near the level he was in his WCW days. Instead, his time in the WWE ended with the fans booing him out of the company.
With that in mind, Stone Cold Steve Austin said on the PWTorch Livecast that he was very happy to see the latest Bill Goldberg WWE return working out so well for the former WCW superstar. Austin also pointed out that part of the problem with the last Bill Goldberg run was that fans wanted to see Austin fight Goldberg and it never happened.
“The window already closed, I was getting ready to get out of there, so Stone Cold vs. Goldberg never happened. All of these years that go by, because he was so over in WCW, he gets in the big leagues, whether it was the writing or he didn’t really fit the system for whatever reasons.”
Bill Goldberg hit if off huge when he first showed up in the WWE so many years ago. The Rock was in the middle of a huge heel run, playing a Hollywood superstar who acted like a star who had beaten everyone and had no one left to prove himself against. Bill Goldberg appeared and the fans went nuts.

That took place on WWE Monday Night Raw in March 2003, the night after WrestleMania . Cut to one year later to the 2004 WrestleMania XX event and both Bill Goldberg and Brock Lesnar were making their exits from the company following one last match against each other.
The fans booed the two men out of the building. It was clear that Brock Lesnar was completely taken aback and didn’t know how to handle it. Bill Goldberg won that match and the fans only popped when Stone Cold Steve Austin hit both men with Stunners. Lesnar went on to fail at an attempt to play in the NFL and then became the UFC Heavyweight Champion. Goldberg, who had already played in the NFL, retired.
Now, the two men’s careers have circled back to each other. Bill Goldberg made his latest return, and Steve Austin said this one is even bigger than the last time. He said that, unlike the first time Bill Goldberg arrived in the WWE, this time it really seemed to mean something to the former WCW champion.
“I’m not sure Goldberg is the greatest promo guy that ever walked the planet that did business in the squared circle, but an A+ promo by Bill Goldberg handling the task at hand, all those emotions, it was completely real and authentic. I felt it was a great piece of television.”

The question now is how the WWE fans will react to the Bill Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar rematch. No one expects Goldberg to win this match, as Brock Lesnar has been built up as a monster superstar that no one can defeat. Having Goldberg win again makes no sense. A young star needs to beat Lesnar to get over. However, the same was said about The Undertaker at WrestleMania and Brock beat him.

As the Inquisitr reported, Bill Goldberg said he didn’t want to soil his legacy in his return to the WWE.
“At the end of the day, I’m greatly appreciative of all the fans that I was able to acquire over the years. I don’t want to bastardize anything I did, let’s just put it bluntly.”
The Bill Goldberg WWE return has been a huge success according to Stone Cold Steve Austin. The next step is to see how the fans will react to the moment that Goldberg finally gets back into the WWE ring to fight.
