Since returning from a 30-day suspension for violating the WWE’s Wellness Policy, Roman Reigns has now failed to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, the WWE United States Championship and the WWE Universal Championship. His most recent failure can largely be attributed to Triple H, however, who made a surprise return during the main event of Monday Night Raw , hitting Reigns with a Pedigree and allowing Rollins to get the pin. But his next move was even more shocking, as he laid out Seth Rollins to allow Kevin Owens to become the new WWE Universal Champion.
While Sasha Banks takes a month off and Paige is busy serving a suspension, the void they’ve left is being filled by Bayley, who just got called up from NXT to Monday Night Raw last week. As the final member of NXT’s “Four Horsewomen” to graduate to one of WWE’s main rosters, a feud with the current WWE Women’s Champion practically writes itself. The big question is whether Charlotte will be defending against Sasha Banks or Bayley at Clash of Champions .
After Karl Anderson lost to Big E last week, The Club took out their frustrations on The Dudley Boyz and The Shining Stars. As we saw this week, their feud with The New Day is far from over, as Bayley and Dana Brooke joined the teams for a six-person mixed-gender tag team match. With four weeks left before WWE Clash of Champions , the event is barely being mentioned on Monday Night Raw . The WWE United States Champion wasn’t even on the show this week.
WWE Monday Night Raw results
The following includes the results of all the matches and segments from WWE Raw on August 29. Raw has won the ratings war ever since the separate rosters were established, although SmackDown Live hasn’t been far behind. The biggest main event on Raw since the brand expansion shouldn’t hurt their chances of winning again this week. This episode of WWE Raw aired live from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
Raw Pre-Show On The WWE Network
Scott Stanford hosted the Raw Pre-Show as usual and was joined by Lita, Booker T, and Jerry “The King” Lawler. After going over some of the matches already announced for tonight’s Raw , including the Universal Championship Match and the second round of Cesaro vs. Sheamus, they were joined by former WWE Women’s Champion Sasha Banks.
They also dedicated the Raw Pre-Show to Mr. Fuji, the legendary manager who passed away on Sunday. Before the show ended, they introduced a new segment called “Three Up, Three Down,” where they list the three best and worst moments from last week’s Monday Night Raw .
Four-Way Interview
Monday Night Raw started in the ring with Corey Graves hosting an interview session featuring all four competitors from the main event. As expected, the segment ended with all four men fighting. Roman Reigns was the last man standing, and he looked strong leading into his match with Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and Big Cass.

Chris Jericho Defeated Neville
While his JeriKO partner would be busy fighting for the WWE Universal Championship in the last match of the night, Jericho faced Neville in the first match of this week’s Monday Night Raw . Neville put on another impressive match, but just like his encounter with Kevin Owens last week, it wasn’t quite enough to get the job done. They could be trying to make Jericho look strong so that he can challenge Owens for the title.

Bayley Befriended The New Day
The most recent Monday Night Raw signing ran into the current WWE Tag Team Champions backstage, and there was instant chemistry between Bayley and The New Day. As they were celebrating their new friendship, they were interrupted by Dana Brooke. She implied a relationship with Gallows and Anderson, teasing the possibility of a Six-Person Mixed-Gender Tag Team Match later in the show.

Nia Jax Defeated Hyan
Continuing her Braun Strowman-like dominance in the women’s division on Raw , Nia Jax defeated another jobber on this week’s episode. It will be interesting to see how long they make her wait to begin a program with a legitimate contender.

Gallows And Anderson Now Provide Retirement Services
Saying that they are no longer doctors but rather retirement specialists, The Club talked about forcing The Dudley Boyz into retirement last week. Soon, they were joined by Dana Brooke, further teasing the possibility of a mixed-gender tag team match later on in the show.

Sami Zayn Defeated Jinder Mahal
It’s not very clear what WWE will be doing with Sami Zayn next. He was mentioned briefly in the show’s opening segment, but mostly because he lost to Seth Rollins in a qualifying match last week. After a clean victory over Mahal without any sort of interference or background story, what’s next for the Underdog from the Underground?

Bayley And The New Day Defeated Dana Brooke And The Club
With WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte providing guest commentary, her protege, Dana Brooke, teamed up with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows to try to take care of fan favorites Bayley and The New Day. Unfortunately for the bad guys, the tag team champs and their new best friend got the win when Bayley hit the Bayley-To-Belly Suplex on Dana.

Sheamus Took A 2-0 Lead Over Cesaro
In another competitive match with some very solid spots, Sheamus was able to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series against Cesaro. It seems unlikely that a program like this will end before getting to the seventh match, so it looks like Cesaro will be making a comeback leading up to the final match, whether or not he gets the final win.

Braun Strowman Defeated Americo
The way WWE is pushing Braun Strowman is eerily similar to the way they are pushing Nia Jax. Before each match, a competitor unknown to the WWE Universe is interviewed about why they would want to step in the ring with such a monster. Then, the jobber does the job. After making easy work of a luchador this week, Strowman added insult to injury by removing his mask.

Stephanie McMahon Confronted Paul Heyman
After Brock Lesnar hit Shane McMahon with his patented F-5 at SummerSlam , he was formally issued a fine of $500. Stephanie McMahon also expected an apology, and Paul Heyman came to the ring to try to smooth things over between The Beast and the McMahons. After some bitter discourse, Stephanie reluctantly accepted an apology as Heyman made it clear that Lesnar would never do anything to ruin his relationship with the woman who would one day inherit the WWE.

Darren Young Defeated Titus O’Neil — Titus Attacked Bob Backlund
The feud between Darren Young and Titus O’Neil is far from over. After losing rather quickly to his former Prime Time Players tag team partner, Titus attacked both Darren and his life coach after the match. Leaving Bob Backlund laid out in the ring, O’Neil made sure the feud will continue. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them booked for a match at Clash of Champions , possibly on the pre-show.

Kevin Owens: New WWE Universal Champion Thanks To Triple H
If the WWE was hoping to really send the message that a New Era has arrived in the WWE, then they took a big step towards meeting that goal with the main even of Monday Night Raw this week. After Kevin Owens eliminated Big Cass with a Frog Splash, it was down to Owens, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns. Rather than Rusev ruining things for Reigns, it was Triple H, who made a surprise return on Raw .
It’s a WHOLE NEW GAME!! @FightOwensFight is the NEW @WWE #UniversalChampion , thanks to COO @TripleH ! #RAW pic.twitter.com/ubphGf6Fqx
— WWE (@WWE) August 30, 2016
Triple H’s first action was to Pedigree Roman Reigns outside the ring, then shove Reigns and Rollins back into the ring so that Roman would be eliminated. Then, with both Owens and Rollins in the ring, Hunter shocked Seth (and his supporters Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley) by hitting The Architect with the second Pedigree of the night and then encouraging Owens to make the cover. Just like that, Kevin Owens is the new WWE Universal Champion.
The above WWE Raw results will be corroborated by WWE’s official Monday Night Raw page.
