Another promotional clip for Pacific Rim has arrived online.
Director Guillermo del Toro’s Kaiju vs. Jaeger action flick is on its way to theaters in just a matter of weeks. As such, the folks at Warner Bros. have been keeping a steady stream of promotional material flowing online. There’s more Pacific Rim stuff out there than you’ll know how to handle.
For movie geeks who love to watch giant monsters battle huge robots on the big screen, del Toro’s flick is easily one of this summer’s most anticipated. However, it remains to be seen if Pacific Rim can capture the attention of casual moviegoers who aren’t as nerdy about such things.
The clip you see embedded above begins right in the middle of one of these epic showdowns. As the creature tears across a devastated cityscape, our attempt to intervene using a robot known as a Jaegar. Without giving too much away, the video gives prospective audiences a glimpse at some of the weaponry used to combat these monsters.
Here’s how Warner Bros. is describing the flick these days:
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes — a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee — who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Brad William Henke, and Diego Klattenhoff. The flick will hit theaters on July 12.
