Ed Sheeran fans across the globe can finally “Sing” along with the pop star as he’s set to ride with James Corden in The Late Late Show’s newest edition of “Carpool Karaoke.”
The teaser trailer for Corden’s trip home to London aired last night, showcasing a quick sneak peek at his upcoming “Carpool Karaoke” with Sheeran. The two can be seen belting out the current hit “Castle on the Hill” with a special appearance by Ed’s guitar. The duo is also spotted laughing as they rap alongside Ed’s 2014 No. 1 hit “Sing.”
It’s the “Carpool Karaoke” everyone has been waiting for, as Sheeran has solidified himself as one of the world’s top musicians. “Shape of You” and “Castle on the Hill” continue to dominate on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at Nos. 5 and 30 respectively. Sheeran’s album ÷ ( Divide ) is now the third-fastest-selling album ever in the U.K., and first by a male solo artist ever. Ed’s 672,000 album sales are beaten out by Oasis’s Be Here Now and Adele’s 25 .
Ed’s edition of the popular Late Late Show segment will follow relatively lackluster appearances by Harry Styles and Katy Perry, which debuted within days of each other over a week ago.
Harry belted his newest solo hit “Sign of the Times” in addition to Outkast’s “Hey Ya!” In two weeks, Harry’s “Carpool Karaoke” garnered over 18 million views. This was Styles’ second appearance on the segment, after appearing with the now dismantled One Direction in 2015. The band’s ride-along with James reached over 103 million views on YouTube, making it one of the Late Late Show’s most popular rides to date.

Katy Perry’s edition aired three days after Styles and received half the love. With only a little over 9 million views, it’s one of the worst received clips of the bunch. Despite singing mega-hits “Firework” and “I Kissed a Girl,” fans weren’t thrilled with the performance from the pop songstress. Perry even discussed her feud with Taylor Swift openly, which seemed a surefire way to bring in the views. Whether Katy’s segment can rise in the “Carpool Karaoke” ranks remains to be seen.

Adele currently holds the top spot for the most-viewed “Carpool Karaoke” segment with almost 160 million views. Justin Bieber isn’t far behind with over 114 million, with the aforementioned One Direction bit in third with just over 103 million.
Fans are jumping for joy at Sheeran’s upcoming appearance and expressing their excitement on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. “Finally!” seems to be the general sentiment regarding the “Carpool Karaoke” segment, while others predict it will be one of the most viewed in the show’s history.
Sheeran expressed an interest in the skit in February during an interview on the Roman Kemp Show on Capital FM . He even revealed Corden had approached him about Carpool Karaoke years ago.
“I’ve been in touch with James Corden about this for three years because he wanted me to do the first one, and I just wasn’t around.”
Sheeran also explained his hesitance on the matter.
“I know the whole thing is singing to your tune, but I think I’d feel a bit awkward singing to my song. I think I just want to put on some Biggie… I want to put on something really awkward and dirty, like Biggie’s song ‘Big Booty Hoes.’”
In addition to Sheeran’s much anticipated “Carpool Karaoke” segment, James Corden will bring back his famous “Drop the Mic” sketch for his London shows. The rap battle segment made famous by celebrities like David Schwimmer and Anne Hathaway will make its U.K. debut with none other than Jennifer Hudson.
